  • Here we are with another installment of the Apple iPhone/Gizmodo drama (See what David Letterman had to say here!). If you have been following along with us you are already aware of the fact that Gizmodo got their hands on a top secret iPhone said to be announced in June. Of course, as Apple fans, we are all happy that they got it and were “gracious” enough to show it to us. The thing is just sexy and I personally want one. I’m sold already.
  • I use the term “gracious” loosely because Apple is not exactly happy at the fact that Gizmodo leaked images and video of the new phone. As Jon said, “Gizmodo guy gives it the whole video prostate exam” and that finally triggers Apple to jump and make contact to retrieve the phone. Word is that the undisclosed person who originally found the phone actually tried to contact Apple dirrectly to return the phone, but that yielded no results.
  • Apple is so strict with their security policy that we don’t usually get to see information like this about an unreleased product. Apple reported the phone stolen which somehow then led to a search warrant being issued on Jason Chen’s house in which they seized four computers and two servers. The unsettling part is that the raid was carried out by a special computer task force of which Apple is 1 of 25 major companies who sits on their board.

We for one are happy to have seen the phone, but understand it is Apple’s right to unveil the phone as they see fit. After all, their success rides on the fact that they can build so much hype around new products being released. We don’t pass judgement on Gizmodo for showing the phone since we are happy to have seen it, but perhaps it wasn’t the right thing for them to do? Apple sure doesn’t think so. But what really gets me and we agree with Jon here is that Apple needs to “chill baby”. They already have all of us behind them and things like this don’t necessarily hurt them. So although they can have strict security, there was no need for the raid of journalist, Jason Chen’s house.

What do you guys think? Could Apple and/or Gizmodo handled this better?
